Officer Report
Officer L. Davis, Crime Prevention Specialist from APD did not attend.
EDo Walkable Wednesday
David Tanner, President of EDo, spoke on the success of the event of Wednesday September 20 th. The event was well attended. It included jazz music and yoga. There were local business vendors and others from around New Mexico. There were limits of 50-75 food tickets placed by the participating restaurants. Those participating included the Mouse Hole, Farina, the Artichoke Café and the Range. The city assisted significantly with costs. EDo is looking to host more events and hopes to possibly make these more regular in the future.
119 High St
Homewise is participating in a City-facilitated meeting with adjoining neighbors on Thursday October 5th. Bonnie is hopeful that the details we requested at the August meeting from Homewise will be presented at our November meeting.
Holiday Hijinks
Fiona Cooke, who co-chairs the committee with Bruce Redford, reported on the progress the pair have made towards making our December 2 nd party and silent auction fund raising event at the Press Club successful. Greg Swyden of Fundraising Nonprofits LLC is actively working on the event. Fiona gave an update on sponsorships for the event. The auction website is projected to be up and running in mid-October. The committee will continue to recruit and enlist more donations of skills and items.
Bonnie requested volunteers to design the flyer for the event. If a volunteer is not found, our contractor will be enlisted for the task, which will either mean less time spent on the event or increased cost. The contractor was informed that the HHHDA, while not-for-profit, is not a 501(c)(3) organization, and he had no issue. In addition, the proposed charitable beneficiary targeted to share in our fundraising has authorized the use of their name in conjunction of our event.
Good Neighbor Recognition
Bonnie initiated a brain-storming session on ideas for our association to recognize neighbors who work to make our neighborhood better and special. There was discussion on tangible ways to reward them. Proposals of gifts, clothing, signage, and plaques were suggested. Attendees related that the 12th Street association currently recognizes neighbors with signage. There were suggestions that we consider a “Neighbor of the Year” to be awarded at our annual meeting, perhaps based upon cumulative “Neighbor of the Month” awards. David of EDo shared that his association was looking to do something similar. Attendees shared the names and deeds of some neighbors they thought worthy. Bonnie suggested that we might have a “backlog” of individuals to recognize.
Central Overpass
Howard Dobin gave an update on the proposed overpass. The optimistic hope was that the overpass would begin construction in late September, though the target date he received from the city was vaguely “the fall.” Sadly, his emails and phones calls have not been replied to nor returned. He will update us on any progress of new information at next meeting.
Train Whistles
The train whistles that were heard in the neighborhood over the last weekend were from a restored steam locomotive that the restorers hope to move to the Rail Yards for permanent display.
Call 311
Harris Balkin asked the assembled to report illegal turns from city vehicles to 311, especially left turns made illegally across the marked ART Bus lane.
The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be on Wednesday November 1st.
