This was a special meeting to receive input from neighbors about the proposed BBQ restaurant at the old fire station. After a brief introduction to the assembled neighbors (about 30) about the regular meeting schedule of the HHHDA and the issue on the agenda, Bo Barnwell (the restaurant owner) gave a summary of his proposal. Then, in two-minute segments, neighbors shared their concerns about the proposed BBQ restaurant at the old fire station site:
- Sets a precedent for allowing a business into a residential neighborhood (traffic, noise, lighting at night, etc.)
- Creates 24/7 BBQ aroma
- Causes a distraction for church-related activities like weddings and funerals (Greek church across the street)
There was also time for a Q&A with Mr. Barnwell. The next step, should Mr. Barnwell decide to continue with his proposed restaurant, would be a hearing for a zoning change since the lot is currently zoned “”fire station only.” Neighbors were encouraged to leave their email addresses with HHHDA so we can notify them about any events related to this controversial issue.
Meeting adjourned at 7:30. Next meeting is Wed., June 4, 2014.
