Minutes of the March meeting were read and approved.
Officer Report—Our new PAC Sgt. Sanders reported 4 auto burglaries, some vandalism, but nothing of huge concern. APD performed 3 auto burglary arrests which should show positive stats.
Greek Church Update—Gary from the Greek Orthodox church presented plans to construct traditional bells outside of the church. The bells will be located inside the church walls, near the large pine tree, and will ring regularly Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 10am. The board supported the plans unanimously.
IDO Update—The Board submitted a proposal to require a 120-day period before demolition on any structure in our neighborhood. This proposal was denied, but the next step is to update our neighborhood map to indicate all contributing + historic structures, which still require a 90-day wait period before demolition.
New Construction—A hotel and parking structure is planned for Broadway and Central, SW corner. Ben reported his thoughts on the plan and brought up a few key concerns. Ben will draft a letter for Board approval indicating the most pressing concerns (primarily, the design on the entrance and parking garage entrance).
Demolition Request—Owners of 209/211 Broadway have put in a request for demolition. This property was built in the 1920’s and the neighborhood is against demolition of the property. No action will be taken until the hearing with LUCC.
401 Walter SE—Dr. Gonzalez brought updated plans for construction slated for 401 Walter SE. His son (the designer) is working closely with LUCC to adjust plans to fit our neighborhood. Dr. Gonzalez is eager for construction to begin so that he can settle into his new home and into his retirement!
Chain link fence at Highland Park—Many board members do not like the chain link fence along the west side of Highland Park, but no consensus on what steps (if any) should be taken.
Easter Egg Hunt—Diane Dolan claims that the park will be open this week. The Easter egg hunt is still planned for April 15. David is working with Annabelle to figure out details and will wait to hear status on park before moving forward.
Mother’s Day Tour—Sally, Ann and Amberley are working diligently on new plans for Mother’s Day Tour. Theme is “Creative ways to keep the old alive!” and the event will be marketed through a variety of new channels. Many volunteers will be needed, so neighbors should expect a call from Ann.
Collective Yard Sale—Sam would like to host another collective yard sale, to be held at the station, with proceeds going to a local charity or perhaps the ACC. Sam will handle promotion and logistics.
Critter under shed—Ann has a critter living under her shed; unsure what it is; Kathy recommends putting moth balls under to deter whatever creature it might be!
