Minutes of the June meeting were read and approved.
Officer Report—Cindy Pino presented the officer report with 16 auto burglaries and 2 auto thefts. She reminded us that Officer Appreciation day is August 11th 11-3pm at 5408 2nd St. NW.
IDO—There is talk of changing the wording within the IDO about alcohol sales and zoning. Would require 500ft between a liquor store and residential zone, and 1000ft between retail liquor stores. The final vote will take place August 16, Bonnie will research what this change would mean for a grocery store selling liquor.
Tree Project Potential—RFP for one neighborhood to receive 100 trees from the city. Don’t think our neighborhood should enter, this seems better suited for South Valley or Barelas.
311 Edith SE—311 Edith SE will be going in front of zoning on July 18th. Motion to write a letter of support from the board to submit to zoning.
Block Party—The block party, annual meeting, will take place at the filling station on August 13th 5-8pm. All neighbors are invited to bring a dish to share, enjoy live music from Pawn Drive, libations from Marble Brewing, and hula hoops + games for the whole family. Flyer will go out by July 13, board voted in favor of paying the band $200 as well as spending $200 on gift certificates to local businesses.
Bee Swarm Education—Kathy taught us about bee swarms and what actions to take if you see a swarm of bees (be calm, call a beekeeper such as Jason Fink at 238-8111, don’t worry!)
Electronic sign installation—Proposal to put electronic signs at MLK and freeway, and Coal and high, to alert travelers about accidents or delays on the interstate. Board recommends an alternative location on Coal , closer to the freeway entrance (perhaps east of A-1 lockshop?)
Miscellaneous—Dr. Gonzales plans on starting construction on his new home on the corner of Walter and Lead, hopefully in August!
Meeting adjourned 7:32 pm; August meeting will be replaced by block party. September meeting will take place 6:30pm September 6th.
