Huning Highland Historic District Association Meeting
6:30pm | Preservation Station
OFFICERS’ REPORT:
The report shared the usual mix of burglaries and vehicle thefts. Officer Garcia promised to bring addresses associated with the various crimes to future meetings. He also updated us on recent meetings with the owner of the troublesome property on Broadway, as requested.
NEGLECTED PROPERTIES:
The City has taken no action on our July letter requesting enforcement of ordinances related to the maintenance of three historic properties in Huning Highlands. There was discussion of what follow up action the Board might take. It was decided to invite Leslie Naji, the City staff overseeing historic preservation, to our December meeting and ask her advice. It would be an opportunity to also ask her to respond to other neighborhood issues, such as the placement of solar panels.
CROSSWALK AT EDITH AND CENTRAL:
There have been complaints about the short time that pedestrians have to cross Central at Edith. It appears to be around 10 seconds which is not long enough for some residents and customers (to businesses on Central) to safely cross. Bruce volunteered to draft a letter to the appropriate City agency requesting a review of this safety issue. It is expected that EDo will make a similar request.
SPEEDING ON BROADWAY:
A neighbor complained about a speeding vehicle on Broadway that ran a stoplight and struck her car as she was crossing on Lead. A discussion followed about the need to restripe Broadway to slow down traffic, and David explained that EDo was working with Councilor Benton’s office on this very issue.
DONATION APPROVED:
The Board approved a $1000 donation to the local domestic violence shelter to aid in their fundraising for renovations and maintenance costs.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
