Minutes from the August meeting were approved. September’s meeting lacked a quorum; minutes were read but there was no need to approve.

Dickens of a Dinner—Ann Carson appealed for volunteers to fill one of the many possible jobs to make the upcoming 23rd annual Dickens of a Dinner the huge success that the Huning Highlands neighborhood has come to expect. The event is to be held on December 1, starting at 4 pm and winding up at 8 pm. People can volunteer their homes where one of five courses will be served, or be part of a work crew shopping, setting up, cooking, serving, or cleaning up. Ann will be sending out invitations soon. Ticket price is $65. Dickens is the neighborhood’s premier fundraiser of the year.

Officers—This year’s slate of officers was elected. Officers are:

President          Bonnie Anderson

Vice President  Moisés Gonzalez

Secretary          Kathy Grassel

Treasurer         Ann Carson

Website payment option—PayPal is no longer a payment option for neighborhood membership. While it allowed people to pay membership dues if joining online, Bonnie reported that too few used the service to warrant the cost.

Meeting time—A motion passed to move the monthly meetings from the first Monday to the first Wednesday of the month.

Resignation—Amberley Pyles has resigned from the board, citing work and family constraints. Zoey Fink agreed to be interim board member in her stead. Bonnie Anderson wrote Amberley a letter thanking her for her service and welcoming her return when her schedule allowed.

Murals—The board chatted about the new murals at Coal and Edith. The panel on the Coal side had been defaced, so the artist John “Skip Kid” Lorne replaced that panel with a new theme, while inviting a women’s artist collaborative from Los Angeles to re-paint the panel on the Edith side. Many people clustered around the artists over the few days while the installation was in progress, and many passers-by have been noticed stopping at the corner to take photos.

Renovation—The proposed Judy Chicago house renovation is going through the hearing process. According to Ann Carson, some items in the plans need revision to be approved. Judy and husband Donald attended a neighborhood meeting during the summer to present their ideas for renovation.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30. The next meeting is Wednesday, November 7.
