Minutes | January 2020
Huning Highland Historic District Association Meeting
january 8, 2020
6:30pm | Preservation Station
MINUTES:
Minutes of the December 2019 were read and approved. Attendees introduced themselves briefly.
OFFICER REPORT:
Laura Trujillo from the Valley Command reported on property crimes in the neighborhood. When questioned about other crimes that did not appear in the report, she explained that if all crimes were to be reported each month, the report would be maybe 30 pages long. Neighbors can get that level of detail by going to crimemapping.com.
DICKENS OF A DINNER:
Ann reported that the event was a great success this year and netted about $1500. Thanks to all who contributed and participated!
119 HIGH SE:
Ben led a discussion regarding the issues around this deteriorating property. The City only requires that an owner secure the property from vandals. The City does not have regulations that require an owner to protect the historic integrity of the structure. At this point, we have lodged a complaint with Zoning and they inform us that they will be contacting the owner.
314 EDITH SE:
We have also lodged a complaint with City Zoning regarding this property that had a major fire years and years ago, but the owner has not repaired the property. Zoning said they would investigate and if the property is found to be uninhabitable, they will give the owner 30 days to make the necessary repairs or be in violation and subject to City enforcement.
2020 COMMITTEES:
We will have three standing committees for 2020:
-
Rescuing Properties – such as 119 High SE and 314 Edith SE (Ben, Pam, Lee)
-
Extending Social Outreach – neighborhood pamphlet, Facebook advertising, and events planning (Salley, Amberley, David, Patricia, and Pablo)
-
Preserving Evidence of Neighborhood History – review of donated boxes of material (Ann, Bob, Ruth, and Lisa)
Next meeting will take place Wednesday, February 5, 2020 @ 6:30 PM.
