6:30pm | Preservation Station

OFFICER REPORT:

Officers reported three (3) residential burglaries and two (2) vehicle burglaries. The residential burglaries were in the 100 block of Broadway, the 200 block of Arno and the 200 block of Walter.

DICKENS OF A DINNER:

Ann reported that all necessary arrangements have been made and the dinner will take place Saturday, December 7. The crews have been lined up and decorations displayed. The after-party will be at her home.

M & M GAS STATION:

M & M Gas Station at the Frontage Road and Lead will be demolished, according to the owners of the property. At this point, beyond the demolition, there are no additional plans for the site.

ADVERTISING FOR OUR NEIGHBORHOOD:

We discussed advertising our neighborhood at the local library, neighborhood restaurants and other local gathering spots. Ann provided several examples of pamphlets from other neighborhoods, as examples of what we might want to consider. The purpose of this type of advertising would be to provide a map of the neighborhood for walking tours and general information about Huning Highland Historic District. This may be work for a subcommittee. No decision was made.

DOWNTOWN LIBRARY:

The library downtown is being considered for City Landmark designation. Ann explained that the building is a true example of Brutalism design. She said that the building is three story with the second story having no windows and the basement floor having exterior patio areas. Bonnie is going to generate a letter of support for the designation for the Board’s review.

EDITH CASITA:

Ben advised the meeting that the property owners at 202 Edith NE are considering the addition of a casita at the rear of their property. Ben is working with Leslie Naji with the City. The casita will be approximately 320 sq. ft.

WEBSITE:

Salley created the Huning Highland website many years ago and has managed and maintained the site until now. David has agreed to be the new webmaster. Bonnie shared her sincere appreciation to Salley for all her hard work.

 FACEBOOK ADVERTISING:

Amberley suggested the Neighborhood create a Facebook page and utilize Facebook advertising as another tool to advertise upcoming events. She said that Facebook is a place where neighbors can get information about issues as well as events. The Board voted to approve a $100 advertising budget.

2020 GOALS:

We discussed possible goals for 2020. The following were some suggestions:

  • Rescuing properties – such as 119 High SE and 314 Edith SE

  • Extending social outreach – neighborhood pamphlet and Facebook advertising

  • Preserving evidence of neighborhood history – review of donated boxes of material

At our next meeting we will formalize the wording of the goals and set targets.

Next meeting will take place Wednesday, January 8, 2020 @ 6:30 PM/MT.
