Huning Highland Historic District Association Meeting
November 6, 2019
6:30pm | Preservation Station
OFFICER REPORT:
Officers reported two (2) auto burglaries and no other incident(s) for the month. Ann advised the meeting that there had been a burglary of the shed at 517 Coal. She said that the shed was broken into twice, first for a bike and some lumber and then again for tools. She emphasized the need for neighbors to be watchful and aware. Gordon advised the officer of an abandoned car at 214 Edith.
DICKENS OF A DINNER:
Ann said that everything is proceeding. She said that the property at Arno and Iron would be for the main course and that the after party would be at her home. She also provided flyers for the lighting contest and said that gift cards would be the prizes for the winners.
BOXES OF HISTORY:
9 boxes of neighborhood history are available for review at the community Station. The boxes were donated by the Hock family.
119 HIGH STREET SE:
Ben attended the LUCC meeting and was pleased that they were receptive to his concerns regarding 119 High Street SE. Ben said that David Blank was very helpful and provided information for the hearing. LUCC has requested that staffer Leslie Najii investigate the claims and confirm the zoning of the property. Amberley suggested that neighbors call the City and report the property using trigger words like dilapidated, weeds, graffiti, trash and fires. She also suggested that the Board send a letter to the City regarding its concerns. Bonnie offered to write the letter and circulate it to the Board for review and comment. Ben also shared that David Blank has been unable to secure property insurance for his home because of the condition of 119, and his home’s proximity to the property.
205 EDITH NE:
The business that has been operating out of 205 Edith was investigated by the City of Albuquerque Zoning Enforcement Division. The owners have furnished the property with beds and other household items that convinced the City that they are actually living there. At this point there is nothing more we can do.
LEAD/COAL:
The City has asked the federal government to do a safety audit on Lead/Coal east of I-25 because of a higher than average accident rate. The City of Albuquerque has said ‘no’ to four-way-stops. Patrick Montoya has advised us that the planning phase for our stop lights on Walter will take 4-6 months.
FIRE STATION #2:
The Church bid has been accepted by the City of Albuquerque. However, Isaac Benton would not vote to approve the sale because he said that the Church had not obtained neighborhood approval. A letter of approval we submitted to the Mayor had apparently not been recorded so the approval was tabled until the next Council meeting.
EDO UPDATE:
David Tanner has been elected President of EDO. David and Bonnie had a meeting to discuss EDO/HHHDA collaboration. This meeting prompted a review of the mission of HHHDA:
-
Input on City development projects
-
Preservation of our historic authenticity
-
Building our sense of community by sponsoring events
We also discussed the possibility of setting annual goals. Some suggestions were:
-
Committee expansion for current events already taking place in the neighborhood
-
Focusing on problem properties
We will re-examine this issue at our December meeting.
Next meeting will take place Wednesday, December 4, 2019 @ 6:30 PM/MT.
