Minutes | October 2019
Huning Highland Historic District Association Meeting
October 2, 2019
6:30pm | Preservation Station
SEPTEMBER MINUTES:
Minutes of the September 2019 meeting were read and approved.
OFFICER REPORT:
Officers reported three (3) vehicle break-in(s) and two (2) auto theft(s). They also followed up on concerns brought to their attention at the September meeting, regarding a possible meth house. Ben advised the police that he passes the property multiple times a day and he has never been concerned about the property or the tenants. We asked the police about a gunshot report in the vicinity of High/Lead and were told that we could follow up with CrimeMapping.com. We were also told to notify the police if we saw casings so they could retrieve them and possibly link them to other incidents.
DICKENS OF A DINNER:
Invitations for Dickens of a Dinner were going out the first week of October. Ann said that because holiday events fill calendars quickly it was important to get the invitations out in a timely manner. She also passed around a sign-up sheet for volunteers.
EASTER EGG HUNT 2020 AND MOTHER’S DAY 2021:
Amberly volunteered to head-up the 2020 Easter Egg Hunt and the Mother’s Day Tour 2021. She suggested that in coordination with the Mother’s Day Tour we have a Street Fair. She notified us that the Burger Stand was having a Costume Swap on October 20th. She also suggested that we make the web-site more interactive.
GREEK FESTIVAL:
A representative from the Church provided the following updates: (1) Greek Festival will be held the weekend of October 4-October 5. Everyone is invited. (2) City of Albuquerque has accepted the Church’s bid for Firehouse #2 but there is a six (6) month review process so there are no updates available as of this meeting.
AIR B & B:
Moises shared concerns about a full-time Air B&B on Edith, south of MLK and North of Central. He said that unlike the Bed and Breakfast that the Grants own, which is controlled by City Ordinance(s), the Air B&B on Edith has no such guidelines. He said that this type of business in our neighborhood affects the sense of community since no one really lives there. He asked that we be ‘watchful’ and consider possible legal recourse. He shared that similar situations are being addressed in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
SKUNKS AND RACOONS:
Ann shared that she has been dealing with skunks and (possible) racoons. Unfortunately, no one could offer any real solutions. Lee did volunteer to take care of the situation for ‘nominal fee’.
119 HIGH – across from Holy Burger:
Ben advised the meeting that he would have an update at next month’s meeting.
MEETING ADJOURNED AT 7:10 PM/MT
Next meeting will take place Wednesday, November 6, 2019 @ 6:30 PM/MT.
