LEAD/COAL SAFETY AUDIT REPORT
Elijah Esquivel summarized the findings of the recently release Lead/Coal Safety audit. The major finding was no surprise to this neighborhood: excessive speeds causing damage to property and injury to pedestrians and bicyclists. Additional findings included lack of proper one-way signage, faded street markings, and lack of continuous lighting. View the full report here.
FIRE STATION UPDATE
The Greek Church is using the old fire station as a meeting space for church business until they finalize plans for its future use. As funds become available, they are fixing/restoring the building and grounds.
AIRBNB – SHORT TERM RENTALS
The City has passed an ordinance on short-term rentals: https://www.cabq.gov/council/projects/current-projects/short-term-rental-task-force
There was a brief discussion about the impact of this ordinance on the neighborhood. As in previous discussions on this topic, our chief concern relates to density, and nothing in the current ordinance addresses this factor. According to the City website on this topic, the density issue was thoroughly discussed by the task force, but no agreement was reached.
NEGLECTED PROPERTIES
Ann Carson reported that the property on the NE corner of Iron and Arno is now replacing their non-compliant windows, a first step in renovation in many years. No progress has been made on 320 Edith SE, and 119 High SE is still the site of repeated security breaches. Neighbor John Gallegos reported on his attempts to deal with owners of the property, Homewise, about trespassers on the property and the danger they pose.
THE LOUD HOUSE
Ann Carson also reported on the recent filming activity on the property of the old gas station for a children’s show on Nickelodeon called The Loud House. It centers on the attempts of young people to save an historic property and will be aired in February 2023.
THE SETH HOUSE
Recent owners Nick and Girard announced that their home, the historic Set House, will be having its 140th birthday this year and invited the neighborhood to join in a birthday party. There was discussion of HHHDA support and possible dates in early December.
HAIR SALON EXPANSION
Mario, owner of Craft Hair Studio, announced plans to expand into the building just south of Artichoke Café. He spoke of his many years in business in this neighborhood and how he wants to support its continued vitality in this expansion effort that may include some other small retailers.
