Huning Highland Historic District Association Meeting

6:30pm | Preservation Station

Here is a summary of the Jan. 4 meeting, thanks to secretary Jen Esquivel.


OFFICER REPORT

·       2 Auto Burglaries

·       0 Residential Burglaries

·       0 Commercial Burglary

·       6 Auto Thefts

·       Reminder of Car Safety: Don’t leave things in your car and make sure it's locked. 

·       Fiona Reported 2 Additional Incidents

·       Neighbors were highly concerned about a violent, armed, homeless individual who is often casing the neighborhood. Officers and many knew who this person was and officers confirmed he was arrested. 

 
CENTRAL UNDERPASS

·       At November meeting Bruce spoke about state of underpass. He went to City Council on behalf of EDo/HH. Response from Council was unsatisfactory and Bruce wasn’t able to fully express issue. CABQ promised to maintain more regularly

·       On 12/31 Esquivel family had another bad experience at the underpass. Sent email to Mayor/Ike Benton/other City staff. 

·       Moises indicated they have been keeping clean for 2 days since email.     

·       Neighbors discussed and agreed that we don’t believe the CABQ is doing enough nor that their promises are kept. 

·       Identified ongoing problem for over 15 years

·       All decided to increase pressure including but not limited to forming a committee, involving the media (Jen, Elijah, Moises, Howard + involve EDo)

·       Discussed working further with ABQ Journal reporter Jessica Dyer on a story (Jen would make contact)


OUTREACH

·       From December 2022: Suggested for any and all events that the neighborhood association try to reach out to other neighbors not serving on the board to help organize/volunteer time/attend events become involved. Need to build email list or find a way to outreach to fellow neighbors other than leaving flyers at the door.   

·       Ruth Lantry + Fiona Cooke indicated they are working on a flyer/postcard to include info on monthly meetings, and functions


ANNUAL EVENTS

MOTHERS DAY TOUR

·       HH hosts every other year (odd years), 2023 is HH’s year

·       Major Fundraiser for HH

·       Duties Include organizing and marketing

·       Board agreed to allow Bonnie to pass on HH hosting in 2023. 

AUCTION

·       Prompted by the email from David Tanner that any HH events incorporate EDo Businesses

·       Held at the Press Club

·       Auction of Workshops Provided by EDo Businesses (Picnic by The Grove, Hair Styling by Craft Hair Studio…)

·       Organizing Committee Needed

·       Bruce suggested we identify a project to which the funds would be directed (a mutual project of  EDo and HH


The next meeting will be February 1.
