NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN UP—Lisa Aurora-Calderon had volunteered to head up the Neighborhood Clean Up but also ran into scheduling difficulties so our neighborhood did not participate this year.

Ann said that she was in good shape relative to the volunteers needed. Tickets may be for sale at the Grove on the day of the event – details are being worked out. COMPLETE STREETS – BROADWAY/COAL/MLK—Vince and Moises outlined the meeting(s), regarding the ‘Complete Street’ study. They explained that this concept would be one that accommodates vehicles, bikes and pedestrians. Vince explained that City staffers, during their review of Broadway, violated three (3) sections of the Study
- Complete Street should include trees and landscape
- Complete Streets have Actuated signals
- Complete Streets have more crosswalks and encourage pedestrian movement
Staff will go back to the drawing board to address:
- Protected bicycle lanes from Broadway to MLK
- Actuated signals
- Pedestrian signals with more time for crossing
- Left/Right west bound lanes on Lead to mitigate Suicide Slot
- Tijeras dog-leg needs to be removed – 2 deaths
- Issues that prevent re-development and commercial connections
- Reduce speed to 25 MPH on Broadway
- 12:00 AM-6:00 AM flashing red traffic signals to reduce speed
PARKING ACROSS FROM THE GROVE—Moises informed the meeting that the vacant lot across the street from the Grove has been transformed into a paid parking lot. Moises shared that he has multiple meetings with the Owner regarding the Owner’s intentions relative to the property. Moises explained that the conversion of the vacant lot to paid parking is not the highest and best use of the land and is a zoning violation. Following the EDO meeting we will decide how we wish to best deal with this situation.
